National Cord Cutting Day - Cutting out Cable TV

Today is National Cord Cutting Day - I wonder if there is a Hallmark card for this event!

If you've been frustrated with the lack of anything worth watching on cable but are still paying ludicrous amounts for it, consider cutting cable and buy an antenna.

Look at what you typically watch though as signing up for Netflix and other add-ons can quickly increase your monthly costs. And if you're not bundling cable with internet, your internet costs will increase. Unfortunately in our area, we only have one choice so there's no chance of shopping around for a cheaper service.

Here's what works for me.

For basic TV - an antenna (The RCA Flat Digital TV Antenna from Walmart works well in my area at under $25). Although, because the ABC channel broadcasts differently, I am unable to access those programs in my location (I can see some of them after they have aired using my Roku).
To access Netflix etc. - Roku - The Roku Express works great and $29.99 from Target. (Your TV may give you access to streaming but mine is quite old)

With Roku you can also access free movies, watch You Tube and access other plans such as Acorn TV and Brit Box which are each around $5 a month if you like British programs. Take a look at The Cord Cutting Report for more.
