Before taking your car in for service to a dealer or mechanic when a warning light comes on, first stop by an auto parts store such as O'Reilly or Auto Zone. They can check the code and give you an idea of the problem. A few years ago when the check engine light came on, I took the vehicle to a mechanic at Pep Boys who told me that it was an emissions problem and would be quite expensive to repair along with related parts, but their emissions mechanic wasn't available until the following day to fix the problem. I then went to an auto store where they suggested it might be the gas cap that wasn't fitting correctly. Ten dollars and a new gas cap later, the light went off and no more problems!
If your tire pressure light comes on, most places where they do oil changes such as Jiffy Lube or Kwik Kar will check your tire pressure and inflate your tires to the correct pressure free.
