The fall is a good time to plant spring bulbs (check on your region/zone for best planting times). You can also "force" bulbs to bloom earlier which would make great Christmas presents. Consider using a bulb vase and preparing bulbs that will flower around Christmas (takes 16 weeks) or select other glass vases and add rocks. You want to make sure that only the roots are in the water otherwise the bulb will rot.
