When decorating your home, patience will save you a lot of money. Don't rush out and impulse buy items. Instead, have an idea of what you want for a room. In a folder, keep magazine pictures of rooms you like.Start by choosing colors, perhaps a pillow or curtains or a decorative item/vase. The rule of thumb is to use three colors in a room. Use your pillow or decorative item as a guideline. Take a picture on your phone to refer to when shopping. If you have painted the walls or have a colored carpet or rug, take pictures of those also. Take measurements. Decide what size side table, coffee table, or furniture you want. Search yard sales, Craig's list and charity stores. Let friends know what you are looking for and enlist their help in your quest.
Note: Instead of pictures, I use a small photo book (from the dollar store) and slip pieces of material, paint chips and pictures in that and take it with me when I go shopping or go to yard sales. I also list measurements of things I'm looking for.
