Deterring Ants

I've been having an ant problem lately and one of the deterrents I've found online is to place cucumber slices, cinnamon, salt or peppermint oil at the entry points. The problem with this is they will just move somewhere else. I'll keep you posted on my efforts to get rid of them.
Note: Peppermint is also supposed to deter mice and rats.
