We had loads of baby/receiving blankets for the grandchildren and it seemed a shame to discard material that had memories attached to them, so I cut them up to make single bed size quilts. I cut the blankets into rectangles and interspersed them with plain cotton material squares. For the quilted hearts and diamonds, I cut a piece of cardboard to draw around to give me an outline to quilt on. Although I purchased the batting (with a 40% off coupon) I used a sheet for the backing so they were quite inexpensive to make and turned out great.
