Being frugal is about buying based on needs whereas advertising appeals to your wants because you're more likely to splurge on luxurious items and be more careful when buying what you actually need. Make sure you shop wisely and know the difference between want and need. And then there's the guilt that advertisers use. Celebrations used to be Hallmark card moments, now father's day advertising promotes high tech items, mother's day is expensive perfume and jewelry and every event seems to bring out the car sales advertising with a big bow!
