Composting

Composting is a great way to get nutrients back into the soil and it doesn't have to cost anything. You can make a compost bin with wooden pallets or a trash can. The idea is to layer dead items (anything dried i.e. leaves) and kitchen scraps from vegetables (peelings or leftover vegetables). Stir/aerate frequently and keep it moist (not soggy). Twice a year sieve the soil to use in the garden and put back into the composter anything that hasn't decomposed. I made a sieve using chicken wire and a wooden frame.
