Individual Packs of Homemade Oats

If you use individual packets of oats for breakfast, take a look at the ingredients - lots of unidentifiable additives. A healthier way to eat oats is by making them at home and to save time, make up a batch of dried ingredients and put in individual packets/snack bags. There are several sites that give more details and suggestions on making these below and many recommend re-using the bags to save money.

Here's the basic individual recipe:
1/4 cup oats
pinch salt
1/2 tsp. brown sugar
1/4 teasp. cinnamon
1 tbsp powdered milk
Add 1/4 cup water

Microwave 60 seconds

Note: I found it needed more water and cinnamon. I also cooked it for longer as the oats I had were not the quick oats. Another suggestion I've noted on various sites is to grind some oats and add to the mixture to make it creamy.

For making a batch:
10 cups oatmeal
1 teasp. salt
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup powdered milk
2 teasp cinnamon

Add 1/2 cup of water when making
Microwave 60 seconds

Note: You can add dried fruit to give the oats more flavor.
