Smart Grocery Shopping

Know the prices. You will need a baseline to work from so either take your most recent receipts or start tracking now. List the items you buy regularly such as: toilet paper, milk, eggs, cereal, etc.

Shop the aisle perimeter. Costlier items are stacked on the aisles. Don’t pick up displayed items at the end of the aisle without comparing prices. A reduced named brand item may still cost more than the store brand.

According to Stephanie Nelson of couponmom.com, plan your meals and shopping lists around sale items. Look at the weekly sales advertisements. Use coupons when an item is on sale. Check the Sunday newspaper. Some stores, such as Kroger, offer double coupons.
